AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY OF KAZAKHSTAN: Local Production Accounts for Two-Thirds of Sales
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, in April 2025, Kazakhstan's enterprises produced 13,886 units of various types of wheeled vehicles worth 196.3 billion tenge, compared to 14,062 units and 172.2 billion tenge a year earlier (–1.4%). Automotive production accounted for 41.5% of total machine-building output in April.
Production volumes over the first four months of 2025 were comparable to the January–April 2024 results, showing a slight decrease of 1.1%. A total of 47,041 units of vehicles were produced in Kazakhstan, valued at 638.7 billion tenge, compared to 47,548 units worth 593.1 billion tenge in the same period last year.
Passenger cars made up the majority of production — 43,155 units (–1.1%). A total of 1,813 trucks (–13.1%) and 734 buses (–0.8%) were produced. In addition, manufacturers produced 1,140 trailers and semi-trailers, as well as 199 units of other specialised equipment.
Anar Makasheva, President of the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), stated:
"Production volumes at Kazakhstan’s automotive enterprises over the first four months of 2025 have remained consistent with last year. These figures reflect the stable and predictable development of the industry. By the end of the year, with the launch of two new automobile plants in Almaty and Kostanay, production is expected to increase due to an expanded model range localized in Kazakhstan.
A key trend remains the deepening of technological processes, as the share of locally manufactured auto components continues to grow steadily. Together, these factors contribute to the creation of high-productivity jobs, the development of regional industrial infrastructure, and the strengthening of the country's industrial capacity.
Sales figures also confirm the soundness of the chosen industrial policy: today, two out of every three vehicles sold in Kazakhstan are domestically produced."
According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), over the first four months of 2025, a total of 24,989 units were produced in Kostanay (Allur), (-17.3%). In Almaty (Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan, Hyundai Trans Almaty), 18,819 (+39.4%) passenger and commercial vehicles were manufactured. In Semey (SemAZ, Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan), 1,111 units of commercial vehicles were produced (–33.9%). In the Karaganda region (QazTehna), output reached 476 units (+15.8%). In Kokshetau (KAMAZ Engineering), 363 units of commercial vehicles were assembled (+17.1%). Others - 1,283 units.
