KAZAKHSTAN'S AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY: PRODUCTION IN MAY UP 15.7%
According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), in May 2025, local enterprises manufactured 10,713 units of wheeled vehicles, representing an increase of 15.7% compared to the same month in 2024. The total output included 9,169 passenger cars (+15.1%), 943 trucks (+15.7%), 213 buses (+23.8%), 110 specialised vehicles, and 278 trailers and semi-trailers.
Over the first five months of 2025, a total of 57,754 units of vehicles were produced in Kazakhstan, valued at 807.8 billion tenge, compared to 56,812 units over the same period last year. This represents a 1.7% year-on-year increase in production volume.
Anar Makasheva, President of the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), stated:
"The results for the first five months of 2025 demonstrate the consistent performance of Kazakhstan’s automotive manufacturers. Local companies are actively investing in both the modernisation of existing facilities and the construction of new production sites. Despite external factors, manufacturers are focused on expanding capacity and increasing output.In the current strategic environment, it is vital to maintain industrial momentum in parallel with investment activity to ensure long-term growth."
According to the results for the first five months of 2025, 30,534 units were produced in Kostanay (Allur), reflecting a 14.1% decrease. In Almaty (Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan, Hyundai Trans Almaty), 22,889 passenger and commercial vehicles were assembled (+37.1%). In Semey (SemAZ, Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan), 1,484 units of commercial vehicles were produced (–28.3%). In the Karaganda region (QazTehna), output reached 719 units (+37.0%). In Kokshetau (KAMAZ Engineering), 549 units of commercial vehicles were assembled (+42.6%). Others - 1,579 units.
The five most popular locally produced brands from January to May 2025 were Hyundai (22,643 units), Chevrolet (11,084 units), Kia (10,414 units), Jetour (4,584 units), and JAC (3,286 units). In terms of models, the highest production volumes were recorded for the Chevrolet Cobalt (8,969 units), Hyundai Tucson (8,816 units), Kia Sportage (4,811 units), Hyundai Elantra (3,616 units), and Hyundai Santa Fe (2,949 units).
