NEW VEHICLE SALES IN KAZAKHSTAN: 9 OUT OF 10 CARS SOLD IN JANUARY WERE DOMESTICALLY PRODUCED

- Top 5 in January: Kia, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Chery, Changan
According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), 14,102 new vehicles were sold in January 2026 (13,298 passenger cars and 804 commercial vehicles), which is 25.2% more than in January last year.
Anar Makasheva, President of KAU: “January sales increased by a full quarter this year. This is a positive trend. But January’s main achievement lies elsewhere: 87.4% of the vehicles sold were produced in Kazakhstan. These are products under the national label ‘‘Made in Kazakhstan” – high value-added products. Overall, we, as representatives of the automobile industry, greatly value such a high level of trust from our citizens. It is the trust of Kazakhstan citizens in the quality, safety, technological capabilities, and affordability of domestically produced vehicles. This underscores the current level of competence of the national industry. The investment climate created by the state, technology transfer from the world’s leading automotive countries, the activity of national investors, and the training of engineering personnel – together, all of this has helped Kazakhstan’s automobile manufacturing take an evolutionary step forward over the past few years.”
The Kazakhstan Automobile Union noted that in recent years President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been actively supporting domestic manufacturers and national business, promoting the “Made in Kazakhstan” brand at the highest level. The Head of State also regularly calls on Kazakhstan citizens to demonstrate economic patriotism to buy domestic products. As industry statistics show, this policy is resonating with customers in the automobile sector as well.
It should be noted that January sales were shaped by the extended holiday period and the traditional slowdown in business activity at the beginning of the year. As a result, the market structure by brands and models differs somewhat from the previous months’ figures. In the Top 10 best-selling brands in January, Kia took first place with 2,774 units (+183.1% vs. January last year). Hyundai is second with 2,698 vehicles (-15.6%). Chevrolet is third with 2,512 units (+110.9%). Next are Chery – 1,007 (+42%), Changan – 717 (+92.7%), and JAC – 683 (+16%). Rounding out the Top 10 are Jetour – 600 (+3.3%), Haval – 546 (-5.9%), Toyota – 397 (-34.1%) and Geely – 350 (-47%).
Among the Top 10 most popular models in January, Chevrolet Cobalt leads (2,191 units), followed by Kia Sportage (1,482). Hyundai Tucson (1,397) is in third place. Next are: Hyundai Mufasa (497), Kia Cerato (493), JAC S3 Pro (442), Changan CS55 Plus (440), Chery Tiggo 2 (369), Hyundai Elantra (363) and Kia Soluto (337).
