THE MARKET FOR NEW ENERGY VEHICLES IN KAZAKHSTAN IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2026

NEW VEHICLE SALES UP 5.9% IN JULY

17 August

● July’s top five brands: Hyundai, Chevrolet, Kia, Changan and Chery

According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), official dealers sold 21,371 new passenger and commercial vehicles in July 2026, up 5.9% from July last year (20,179 units). In January–July, new vehicle sales reached 127,260 units, exceeding the figure for the same period of 2025 by 1.7% (125,132 units).

Anar MAKASHEVA, President of KAU: “Kazakhstan’s automotive market continues to maintain a high level of new vehicle sales. The rapidly changing competitive landscape is particularly evident today: locally manufactured models are strengthening their positions, the range of available vehicles is expanding, and buyers are paying increasing attention not only to vehicle prices but also to technology, purchasing terms and the quality of after-sales service.”

In July 2026, Hyundai dealers sold 3,712 vehicles, virtually matching the result recorded in July last year (+0.4%). Chevrolet ranked second with 2,855 vehicles (-29.5%). Kia took third place, with sales rising 14.8% to 2,492 vehicles. Changan came very close to Kia, selling 2,456 vehicles. The brand increased its sales by an impressive 171.7% compared with July 2025. Chery rounded out the top five with 1,543 vehicles, up 35.6% year on year. The remainder of the top ten comprised Jetour (1,129 units; -14.5%), Toyota (1,019 units; +8.1%), JAC (994 units; -10.5%), Geely (868 units; +73.3%) and Haval (864 units; -16.6%).

By model, the Chevrolet Cobalt remained July’s best seller, with 2,682 vehicles sold. The Hyundai Tucson ranked second (1,851 units), while the Changan CS35 MAX, with 1,070 vehicles sold, entered the month’s top three best-selling models for the first time. Another notable development was the return of the Kia Cerato to the list of the market’s most popular vehicles. Dealers sold 1,031 units in July, allowing the model to climb directly to fourth place. The Kia Sportage completed the top five with 820 vehicles sold.

Following the first seven months of the year, Hyundai remained in first place with 20,959 vehicles sold (-24.7%). Chevrolet ranked second with 20,441 vehicles, up 17.8% compared with January–July 2025. Kia firmly held third place with 14,824 vehicles (+9.9%). Changan moved into fourth place after more than doubling its sales to 11,927 vehicles (+101.8%). Chery rounded out the top five with 9,686 vehicles (+14.6%). It was followed by Haval (7,590 units; +11.2%), Jetour (6,903 units; -19.4%), JAC (5,739 units; -1.7%), Toyota (5,016 units; -8.8%) and Geely (3,794 units; -34.3%).
