KAZAKHSTAN’S AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY: OVERVIEW OF THE FIRST HALF OF 2025

According to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in June 2025, Kazakhstan’s enterprises produced 13,741 units of various types of wheeled vehicles worth 189.2 billion tenge, compared to 6,622 units worth 94 billion tenge a year earlier — an increase of 107.5%.
Over the first six months of 2025, a total of 71,494 units were produced in Kazakhstan, with a total value of 996.9 billion tenge. Compared to the first half of 2024, production volumes grew by 12.7%. The share of automotive manufacturing in the total machinery industry reached 40.9%.
Passenger cars accounted for the majority of production — 64,795 units (+13.6%). A total of 3,467 trucks were manufactured (–3.4%), along with 1,149 buses (+5.4%). In addition, manufacturers produced 1,697 trailers and semi-trailers, and 386 units of other specialised vehicles.
Anar Makasheva, President of the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), stated: “Kazakhstan’s automotive industry today confidently holds a leading position in the country’s machinery industry, accounting for 40.9% of total output. This is one of the fastest-growing segments of our industrial economy: enterprises are expanding production capacity, broadening their model range, and increasing localisation levels. As a result, we are seeing stronger national industrial potential,the creation of new high-performance jobs, and the development of technological competencies. Today, the automotive industry is a strategic driver of Kazakhstan’s industrial development.”
According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), over the first six months of 2025, 39,049 units were produced in Kostanay (Allur) — an increase of 0.9%. In Almaty (Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan, Hyundai Trans Almaty), 27,109 passenger and commercial vehicles were manufactured (+40.2%). In Semey (SemAZ, Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan), output amounted to 1,975 units (–21.9%). In the Karaganda region (QazTehna), 830 units were produced (+28.9%). In Kokshetau (KAMAZ Engineering), 667 units of commercial vehicles were assembled (+51.6%). Other producers accounted for 1,864 units.
The top five locally produced brands from January to June 2025, including export volumes, were: Hyundai (26,783 units), Chevrolet (14,700 units), Kia (12,454 units), Jetour (5,793 units), and JAC (4,811 units).
The highest production volumes by model were: Chevrolet Cobalt (11,886 units), Hyundai Tucson (10,285 units), Kia Sportage (5,976 units), Hyundai Elantra (4,163 units), and Hyundai Mufasa (3,574 units).
