KAZAKHSTAN AUTOMOTIVE MARKET: 2025 RESULTS

19 January
  • In 2025, Kazakhstan citizens purchased 234,852 new passenger cars and commercial vehicles
  • Top 5 brands: Hyundai, Chevrolet, Kia, Chery, Jetour
  • The ten best-selling models are manufactured in Kazakhstan

According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), in December 2025 official dealers sold 27,464 new passenger and commercial vehicles – 7.3% more than the record-breaking December of the previous year. Total sales for 2025 reached 234,852 vehicles, representing a 14.4% increase versus January–December of the prior year. Thus, for the second consecutive year, Kazakhstan’s new vehicle market exceeded the 200,000-unit mark.

Peak sales in 2025 were traditionally recorded in the second and fourth quarters, and December has set monthly sales records for the third year in a row.

Anar MAKASHEVA, President of KAU: “In 2025, the domestic automotive industry recorded significant industrial growth. With government support, national and foreign investors carried out projects to open two modern car manufacturing plants. In addition, due to an effective customer-centric retail policy, buyers today have access to the widest range of affordable financial tools. In December, 8 out of every 10 new vehicles sold were domestically produced. And over the year, all models in the Top 10 most popular were manufactured in Kazakhstan. This would likely have been impossible without the consistent government policy of supporting the automotive industry, technology transfer, and the growth of Kazakhstan’s own competencies in the automobile sector.”

Based on 2025 sales results, Hyundai continues to lead among the ten most popular brands in Kazakhstan. From January to December, 50,868 Hyundai vehicles were sold (+15.4% year-on-year). Chevrolet ranked second with 38,880 units (+25.7%). Kia placed third with 23,402 units (+1.5%). Throughout the year, two Chinese brands competed for fourth place – Chery (14,570 units; -2.1%) and Jetour (14,507 units; +52.6%). Haval finished the year in sixth place (11,688 units; +6.4%). Toyota ranked seventh (11,338 units; +2.7%). Changan came eighth (11,260 units; +32.3%). The Top 10 is completed by JAC (10,330 units; -12.2%) and Geely (9,621 units; +16.6%).

While more than 75 automobile brands are now represented in the market, over 80% of total sales still belong to the ten largest players. Despite the noticeable expansion of Chinese brands, their market share remained at last year’s level at 39%.

In 2025, Chery Tiggo 2 and Changan CS55 Plus were localized at a new plant in Almaty. By the end of the year, all ten of the best-selling models in Kazakhstan were produced domestically. The Top 3 remained unchanged: Chevrolet Cobalt (31,802 units), Hyundai Tucson (20,697 units), and Kia Sportage (10,988 units). The list continues with: Hyundai Mufasa (8,203), Hyundai Elantra (7,867), Hyundai Santa Fe (5,764), Chevrolet Onix (5,732), Changan CS55 Plus (5,558), Chery Tiggo 2 (5,278) and JAC S3 Pro (5,127).
