KAZAKHSTAN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY: PRODUCTION GROWED BY 41.7% IN MAY

According to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in January-May 2026 Kazakhstan produced 78,580 units of vehicles and equipment, including passenger cars and trucks, buses, special-purpose vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers. This is 36.1% more than in the same period last year.
In May 2026, the country's enterprises produced 15,178 units of vehicles and equipment, which is 41.7% higher than in May of last year. At the same time, compared with April of the current year, production volume declined by 16.3%.
“Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan, ‘The Economic Course of a Just Kazakhstan,’ delivered in September 2023, instructed that an automotive components cluster be created around automobile enterprises. Today, automotive production sites are operating successfully in Almaty and Kostanay, with a modern components base being formed around them. The development of automotive components production is not only a contribution to localization and the growth of the automotive industry, but also a driver for the sustainable growth of small and medium-sized businesses, the creation of new jobs, and the development of technological competencies. Increasing the volumes of SKD assembly helps attract investment to the industry”, noted KAU President Anar MAKASHEVA.
In January-May 2026, the monetary value of production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers reached 932.9 billion tenge, which is 15.5% higher than in the same period last year. The automotive industry's share in the country's mechanical engineering sector was 41.6%.
Over the first five months of this year, Kazakhstan's enterprises produced: 73,122 passenger cars (+39.7%); 1,281 buses (+35.3%); 2,396 trucks (-13.1%); 297 units of special-purpose vehicles (-3.9%); 1,484 trailers and semi-trailers (+4.7%).
According to Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), Kostanay-based Allur (SaryarkaAvtoProm) produced 27,911 units of vehicles and equipment (-8.6%). In second place was the new Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan (AMMKZ) plant, with 21,478 vehicles. Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan produced 16,161 vehicles (-28.8%). Kia Qazaqstan produced 8,059 vehicles in January-May.
Among commercial vehicle manufacturers, QazTehna is showing positive momentum, with 1,311 units produced (+82.3%). SemAZ produced 1,062 units (-24.6%), Hyundai Trans Almaty - 503 units (+185.8%), KAMAZ-Engineering - 279 units (-49.2%), Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan - 264 buses (+230%). Oral-based Uralskagroremmash produced 106 units of special-purpose vehicles. The Orbis Machinery production site produced 97 units. Other manufacturers accounted for 1,349 units.
At the end of the five months, among brands manufactured in Kazakhstan, Hyundai led with 16,131 units, followed by Chevrolet (14,996 units) and Kia (9,209 units). Production of Changan vehicles increased to 8,112 units. Next on the list were: Chery (6,290 units), Haval (6,154 units), Jetour (3,821 units), JAC (3,093 units), with Geely Galaxy (2,678 units) and Tank (922 units) rounding out the top ten.
