THE MARKET FOR NEW ENERGY VEHICLES IN KAZAKHSTAN IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2026

NEW VEHICLE SALES IN H1 2026 REMAINED AT RECORD LEVELS

13 July

● Top 5 brands in June: Chevrolet, Hyundai, Changan, Chery and Haval

According to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU), official dealers sold 21,861 new passenger and commercial vehicles in June 2026, up 12.5% from June last year (19,426 units). Sales for the first half of the year totaled 105,886 vehicles, nearly matching the record result for the same period last year (+0.9%; 104,953 units).

Despite slower market growth after two record years, demand for new vehicles remains consistently high. At the same time, competition among brands is becoming noticeably more intense, while new players continue to strengthen their positions across virtually all segments.

Anar MAKASHEVA, President of QAO: “Kazakhstan’s automotive market continues to expand its potential. Although total sales volumes are virtually unchanged, major shifts are taking place within the market: competition is intensifying, and buyers are becoming more demanding in terms of price, technology and service quality. Today, the market is demonstrating not only scale, but also the ability to adapt quickly to customer needs.”

In June, Chevrolet led the market, with dealers selling 3,117 vehicles (+39.9%). Hyundai ranked second with 3,034 vehicles (-26.0%). Changan moved into third place, more than doubling sales to 2,565 vehicles (+121.5%). This was followed by Chery (1,996 units; +40.9%) and Haval (1,677 units; +63.8%). The top ten also included JAC (1,600 units; +87.8%), Kia (1,422 units; -35.5%), Jetour (1,230 units; -17.6%), Toyota (964 units; +13.5%) and Geely (692 units; -10.5%).

For the first half of the year, Chevrolet took the lead in Kazakhstan’s market with 17,586 vehicles (+32.2%), while Hyundai sold 17,247 vehicles (-28.6%). Kia ranked third with sales of 12,332 vehicles (+8.9%). The year’s standout performer was Changan, which increased sales by 89.2% to 9,471 vehicles, moving the brand into fourth place. Chery rounded out the top five with 8,143 vehicles (+11.3%). Next were Haval (6,730 units; +16.2%), Jetour (5,774 units; -20.3%), JAC (4,745 units; +0.4%), Toyota (3,997 units; -12.3%) and Geely (2,926 units; -44.5%).
